In New York on September 15, 1817 Mary Rowena Hoskins was born.  At this time researchers do not know who were parents were many years later, in Mary’s husband’s obituary it states that her father was Gen. Hoskins a pioneer resident of Terre Haute.  Kay Haden, has written a post that details her’s and others’ research that is very useful in our quest.1

While we don’t know Mary’s ancestry, we do know about her descendants. Mary married Peter B. Allen on December 28, 1836 in Vigo County, Indiana.

Within a few years of their marriage they moved to Arkansas and eventually settled in Polk, Arkansas where much of the family remained for many years.  Mary and her husband had nine children over their marriage of 48 years.  On March 15, 1888, at the age of 67 Mary died and is buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, Polk, Arkansas.

No Story Too Small offered a challenge: have one blog post each week devoted to a specific ancestor. It could be a story, a biography, a photograph, an outline of a research problem — anything that focuses on one ancestor.

Each of my posts for this challenge will include in the title “52 Ancestors Challenge” and will have the tag of 52Ancestors.
