Several of my line of Lineberry’s moved from Carroll County, Virginia to Linn County, Missouri sometime after the Civil War ended. It appears to me that Jacob Lineberry and his wife Mary Fanning had several children and grandchildren who moved to Linn County, Missouri, which included my great, great grandfather’s siblings: Elizabeth who married Nimrod Newman; and Wesley Bird Lineberry; as well as several of their aunts and uncles including: Catherine and George Coulson; Elizabeth and John Coulson; Martha and Rueben Fanning; George and Nancy Evans’ sons Leander and Oran. My great, great grandfather remained in Virginia but one of his son’s, my great grandfather Jacob Wesley Lineberry, moved away from Virginia sometime before 1894 and lived in Missouri with relatives for a time. We know this because of the letters that Jacob wrote to one of his brothers. (click here to read those)
I acquired from a 1st cousin once removed (I think) some photocopied photos of Lineberry’s who I think lived in Missouri. These photos have names on them but I’m not exactly sure who their parents were.
Since my great grandfather talked about his uncle Wesley Bird Lineberry in his letters, I wonder if these photos are from that side of the family. Wesley’s own account indicates that he moved to Linn County, Missouri about 1868 and married Wauconda Langwell. One of their daughters was Effie Mae Lineberry born in 1876 in Missouri and may be the Effie in the one photo below. My great grandfather speaks of Jim Bowers often in his letters but I am not sure who his parents were and I wonder if the Jim Bowers in the photo is that same person. Below is Wesley’s reminiscences along with some photos. Can you help identify any of them?

I wonder if these Bowers are desc. of Levi Bowers of Washington County TN. His son (not documented as yet) was Van Buren Bowers who died in Linn Co, MO around the turn of the century. My husband is desc. from Joshua Bowers of Hurricane Twp., Carroll Co, MO & brother of Levi.

I do not have any of the people you mention in my database so I do not know anything about them. Since Van Buren Bowers was in Linn Co, Mo about the same time as my great grandfather, it is certainly a possibility that the Bowers in these photos are from one of those lines. You indicate that Van Buren’s father was from Tennessee and I don’t have any of my line of Lineberry’s from there but I believe some did go there. The Bowers that my great grandfather talked about were likely from Carroll County, Virginia.

Carroll County Va., is where I will next research since my husband’s Bowers line showed up very briefly in Rockingham Co., then moved on to Washington Co, Va.

My dad passed away in 1983 & I know very little of his family. I have his Lineberry tree, which has been taken from the Internet & I am in the process of trying to document it. I also inherited a photo album that has only a few pictures identified, none of them with family surnames that I am not familiar with and they could be of his Batsch line but I believe them to be of his mother’s Lineberry family. When I am able I will scan them & post them online.
In the meanwhile I am hoping that you will recognize & know of documentation for his tree.

Marriage ceremony by Rev. Samuel Lineberry – I still have not documented him as Frances’ father.
I have a faint recollection of being told that Frances was from North Carolina, Dad was born in IN. I also thought that Dad’s mother’s name was Catherine but that must have been her middle name since the census shows the initial C.

This is probably Frances brother as I have part of a letter written by Elwood Lineberry to my step father Frank Batsch.
I have a letter dated 1941 Anderson, Indiana; From “Uncle” Elwood D. Lineberry in which he writes “I work at Delco-Remy Corp [18 yrs] Harold lives at 421 W. 4 St. and has 3 boys Tommie age 11, Russell age 9 and David age 2.
I have another boy, Albert 24 at home. You have an Uncle John Lineberry living in Vancouver, Wa.
Rest of the letter is missing.

Friends here have received word of the death of Mrs. Fannie Batcch, wife of Charles Batch, a former resident of this city and all who knew her will regret to learn of the passing of a good woman. Mr. Batch was for a number of years employed in the Macbeth-Evans glass factory here and his wife, before her marriage, was Miss Fannie Lineberry, a daughter of Rev. Lineberry and sister of Rev. W. W. Lindeberry, at one time pastor of the Methodist Protestant church here. The family located in California after leaving here a number of years ago and the death of Mrs. Batch occurred in a hospital at Los Angeles, cancer being the cause.
I have copies of Lineberry obits. from Madison Co, IL.
I finally got my computer & scanner fixed & after I finish scanning a stack of documents for my husband I will scan the pictures from Dad’s photo album and send them to you.

Elwood is my great grandfather but I’m not sure if Samuel was his father or William Watt Lineberry was. I remember my family talking about Samuel being a preacher but not WW. I have seen a Parker/Lineberry reunion picture and William was the only son of Samuel and Martha Parker. I would love to see a copy of my great grandfathers letter

Can you get your g grandfather’s death cert. that should give both parents names. Sure would help in piecing the Lineberry’s together. I think that Samuel was Frances’ father which, would make Wm. Wyatt her brother but there is enough age difference for Wm. Wyatt to have been her father if she was born when he was 17.

OBIT: “The Fort Wayne News and Sentinel,” Fort Wayne, Indiana, 14 Apr 1920, p. 8, Rev. W. W. Lineberry, for the past seven months pastor of the Methodist Protestant church, died at his home Monday evening at 9 o’clock from complications. Rev. Mr. Lineberry was born in North Carolina, December 26, 1856, and was 63 years of age. Rev. Mr. Lineberry was well known throughout the entire state, having served as president of the Indiana Methodist Protestant church for ten years. He was also a member of the board of education of the Methodist Protestant church, as well as a member of the Forward Movement commission of the church and for the past forty-two years had been active in the ministry. Rev. Mr. Lineberry accepted the pastorate of the Methodist Protestant church here on September 1, 1919, and the remarkable growth of the church was due to his untiring efforts and his thoughts were at all times with his congregation. Surviving relatives include the wife, three brothers, John L. Lineberry, of Vancouver, Wash.; Robert L. Lineberry, Frankton, Ind., and Elwood L. Lineberry, of Anderson, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. W. Garrettson, Anderson, Ind.; Mrs. Charles Match sic [Batsch), Houston, Texas; two sons, Rev. T. W. Lineberry, Michiganton, Ind.; A. W. Lineberry, Williston, N. D.; two daughters, Mrs. J. McCaslin, Indianapolis, and Miss Ruth, at home. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist Protestant church at 2 o’clock, and will be in charge of Rev. E. T. I have verified Samuel Jr. As my great, great grandfather. He was married 3 times and had 6 children with Martha Parker and 3 with Mary Catherine Ritzel including my great gf Elwood D. Lineberry. I have Samuel obituary as well as a picture that was given to me by my late uncle’s wife this year. Elwood D. had 2 sons, Harold and Albert, and Harold D. Is my grandfather. He was married to Pauline Bronnenberg who came from the family that donated land for Mounds State Park and bronnenberg Children’s Home in Anderson, In. My confusion came in determining that Samuel had children with two wives.

Hi Rick, Do you want a scan of the 1 pg of a multi page letter written by your g grandfather Elwood that I have? I collect samples of my ancestors handwriting and pictures besides just there cold hard facts. On the page he mentions his sons and where they are living at the time of the letter. I wish I had the whole letter but I think that Dad just kept the personal part as it was a letter that was needed for his work during WWII for security reasons. I see you mentioned the Robert O Lineberry/ Amanda Wrestler marriage.
This is MY side of the family – one of their sons, also called Robert, was my grandfather (born 1905 died 1942). His son Rob was my father (born 1934, died 2000)

In reference to this message, yes I know people in these picture. Wesley Bird Lineberry was my Great Grandfather. Group picture has my aunt Effie there with cousin Martha from VA. Bowers boys were also cousins. Picture was taken in Linn CO Missouri.

Do you know of my dad’s Lineberry line? It is posted above. His mother was Frances (Franny) Lineberry whom I believe was the dau of Samuel (son of Samuel & Jane) & Mary but I have no proof. They moved from N.C. to Madison county IN at some unknown date. My dad was b. in Madison co., in 1900.
I hope to post soon some Lineberry/Batsch pictures (not sure which as there are no names on pictures)

Don’t think I can help you. I have a Samuel born 1787 and another Samuel born in mid 1800’s. The last one might be the Samuel you refer too as your great grandfather. I do recall reading a story some place about some of the Lineberry’s in NC migrating to IN, so I guess that is your bunch

hello my name is debbie bowers my grdad was ben f or bennie frank bowers born sept 05 or 06 he had 1 brother milton. we think his dad was john bowers mother jessie mccandless of bucklin linn co mo. we know nothing about john … not sure if this is any help or not . i have been looking for this man for years. if you have any add info please let me know
