James M. Little came to Weakley County, Tenn., in 1833, but moved to Graves County, Ky., where he was married in 1834, and there spent the remainder of his days. He was twice married, and was the father of three children by his first marriage and two by his second wife, whose maiden name was Winiford Ann Barton, who is now deceased.1
James was born April 10, 1815 in Humphreys County, Tennessee to Isaac Little and Rachel Little nee Sisson. He moved to Weakley County, Tennessee in 1833 and by 1834 he married Nancy Gray Mobley in Graves County, Kentucky, a neighboring county, where he lived the remainder of his life. When he was 31 years old, in 1846, he was a widow with 3 children under the age of 10. Almost 11 months later James married Winifred “Winny” Ann Barton and they had 2 children. James died at the age of 51 on September 3, 1866; he and his first wife are buried at Camp Beauregard Cemetery, Water Valley, Graves, Kentucky.
James M. Little was my biological 3rd great grandfather on my father’s side.

No Story Too Small offered a challenge: have one blog post each week devoted to a specific ancestor. It could be a story, a biography, a photograph, an outline of a research problem — anything that focuses on one ancestor. Each of my posts for this challenge will include in the title “52 Ancestors Challenge” and will have the tag of 52Ancestors.
