Week 3 (Jan 15 – Jan 21, 2018) prompt is Longevity. In looking through my genealogy database I discovered that there are 9 individuals who lived for more than 103 years with the oldest living to the age of 109. More interestingly to me was that among those 9 centenarians is one who I knew, my great Aunt Rubye Willis, who lived to the age of 104.
My mother often referred to Aunt Rubye as her favorite aunt because she always made Mom feel welcomed, loved and happy. Much of what we know about my grandfather Willis’ family we learned from listening to Rubye share her knowledge, experience and photos.
When Ruby Edith ‘Rubye’ Casey was born on July 31, 1907, in Decatur, Texas, her father, Samuel, was 26, and her mother, Rosa, was 26. She married John ‘Johnnie’ Newton Hall Willis on December 22, 1928, in Noble, Oklahoma when she was 21. They had two sons.
Her younger son died in 1992, her husband in 1993 and her other son in 1994. Rubye died on December 20, 2011, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, when she was 104 years old. She is buried in the Noble, Oklahoma Cemetery next to her husband.
